Sheikh Zayed National Museum Project - Saadiyat Island Development

  • OnGoing Project
  • Abu Dhabi
  • Urban Construction, Leisure

The projects scope of work involves construction of Sheikh Zayed National Museum comprising seven permanent galleries, including a temporary exhibition space and library, an education centre, a theatre, shops and a cafe with a visitor's service area, will be located in the Cultural district of Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi. It will cover a total built up area of 13,000 square metres. It will tell the story of late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's life, while exploring the history and culture of UAE. Each gallery is inspired by the values of Sheikh Zayed: his belief in education, conservation, heritage and culture, all underpinned by his humanitarianism and deep faith. Roused by the dynamic of flight and the plumes of a bird of prey, the plan reflects Sheik Zayed's adoration for falconry and makes a notorious image for the country. Each steel plume, the tallest of which rises 125 meters, will contain a display space where guests can investigate the history and culture of the UAE. The structure will be encompassed by water and set inside arranged patio nurseries, making a goal for all and a commendable tribute to the memory of Sheik Zayed. The area specifications for the museum are as follows: Exhibition Galleries : 4,400 sq.m Retail & Cafe : 600 sq.m Education Centre : 500 sq.m Back of House : 5,185 sq.m Visitor Services Areas: 1,315 sq.m Total : 12,000 sq.m The client is set to invite renowned architects to offer their ideas and designs for the building.
