This project will be located on King Fahd Road at Al-Sahafa Area of Riyadh in Saudi Araia. The project is about Construction of a 30 storey headquarters building. The tower will include four levels of parking and a five-level basement. The total built-up area will be 55,600 square metres. It will be a 46,544-SM commercial office development comprised primarily of a 135-m tall office tower. A supporting podium is integrated and connected to the tower housing 7,013-SM of banking services, food and beverage areas and employee training facilities. As designer for Saudi Arabia British Bank’s new headquarters in Riyadh, It was challenged to create a sophisticated and inviting, yet secure, space for the bank’s 2,800 employees, as well as customers and visitors. The 34,399-SM office, with 7,000 SF of retail space, is thoughtfully laid out to meet the bank’s goals. The building is responsive to the hot desert climate and incorporates geometric patterns of desert sand dunes. The wraparound on the building’s façade acts as a security barrier and sun shield. The team prioritized natural light in the layout while avoiding the harsh glare of direct sunlight. This modern, forward-thinking, mixed-use space is a true destination for local investors. One of the team’s main challenges was incorporating the client’s security needs without creating the feeling of a fortress. The building’s wrap does just that; it acts not only as a security barrier on the ground floors, but also helps mitigate the direct sun in a harsh and hot climate. The local Engineering Contracting has been awarded the estimated SR675m ($180m) contract to build the headquarters building. Netherlands-headquartered is working as the project manager and designer. The project has already broken ground and is expected to be operational by early 2020.
