Saham Souq Project - Phase 2
This project will be located in Wilayat Saham in Muscat, Oman. The project consists with the task of Construction of a souq (retail market) comprising a ground floor only, including commercial shops, a mosque and rest rooms. The development of Saham Souq is one of the vital projects being implemented by the ministry in the field of traditional Omani souqs development, which is in line with the urban development witnessed here. The project covers the construction of units for fruits, vegetables, fish, livestock and feed markets. The first phase of the project includes construction of service facilities for the fish market, including fish display tables, stores, refrigeration units and areas for packaging and loading fish. The design of the project takes into consideration the environmental and health requirements which are prerequisites for constructing a fish markets. The first phase also contains the construction of a market for livestock and feed. “The site has been designed in such a way that it would include two locations, one for the livestock and the other for the feed, as well as areas assigned specifically to sell agricultural and animal products. The souq also consists health inspection offices, which will help in food inspection and supervision at the market. “This will ensure the preservation of food quality, thereby safeguarding the health of the consumers. The design of the souq allows for free movement of the people from one market to the other. The project is in line with the strategical plan adopted by the ministry in implementing various projects to provide services to residents, thereby promoting the security and welfare of the nation. Local has been appointed as the main contractor.
