Khaleej Al Bahrain Basin Development Project
The project involve development of Khaleej Al Bahrain Basin, covers a 2000-sq-km area located off the west coast of the Kingdom. The field is expected to hold more than 80 billion barrels of shale oil in place, along with 20 trillion cubic feet of gas. The country is aiming to drill two to four wells to test the flow from the field, with the first results expected around the turn of the year. The initial capacity of the re-gasification terminal is about 14 million cubic metres a day (cm/d) with the potential to rise to 22 million cm/d depending on the long-term energy needs of the kingdomÂ’s industrial sector. The full economic picture of the reserves remains unknown, as its magnitude is based on P50 estimates, meaning only 50 per cent of the hydrocarbons is a commercially feasible value proposition for extraction. Client has signed a Letter of Intent with an oil and natural gas producer for a joint evaluation study of the basin and potential Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) procurement opportunities. ClientÂ’s subsidiary will work with representatives from Chevron to study the unconventional potential of the offshore KAB basin. In addition, representatives will explore potential future opportunities in the procurement of LNG by the Kingdom of Bahrain.
