Jubail 3 Co-generation Plant Project
This project involves construction of Jubail 3 co-generation plant in Saudi Arabia. The project is about Construction of a co-generation plant with planned desalination capacity of 1,250,000 cubic meters a day (cm/d) and power generation capacity of 3,000 MW. The plant would use a mix of thermal desalination and reverse osmosis (RO), with the technologies accounting for 70% and30% of the total respectively. The project involves the construction of an integrated water desalination and power plant with a capacity of 1.17 million cubic meters per day of potable water capacity consisting of 60% Reverse Osmosis and 40% Thermal Desalination technology respectively and power plant together with associated infrastructure and facilities. The IWPP will be located 18 km south of the Jubail. Saudi Arabia's Water & Electricity (WEC) has invited expressions of interest (EOI) for the development of an independent water and power project (IWPP) to be located at Jubail Industrial City. The scheme will have a significant capital expenditure (capex) cost due to its size. If implemented as planned, it would be the largest desalination facility in the Kingdom, ahead of the Ras Al-Khair plant, which is currently under construction. It is understood that the government and the client are discussing plans to bring back the Independent Water & Power Project (IWPP) model, which was previously abandoned in 2007. The project is currently under study, with the client having set a planned start date of January 01, 2017. The facility would take 4 years to complete and serve the capital Riyadh and cities in the Eastern Province.
