Dhofar Wind Farm Project
This wind farm will be located at Harweel near Thumrait in Dhofar Governorate of Oman. The project is about Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract to build a wind farm with capacity of 50MW, as well as a 132kV overhead transmission line. It will have about 15 to 20 turbines over an area of 200,000 square meters. It will have daily power production of 1,200 megawatts per hour. It will consist of wind turbines and is estimated to generate enough clean electricity. The wind farm, which is fully funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), reflects OmanÂ’s commitment to diversify its energy sources. The development of the countryÂ’s wind power plant, and OmanÂ’s sustainable energy transition, supporting the diversification of OmanÂ’s energy mix and economy is our top priority, in line with OmanÂ’s sustainability goals, which aims to generate 10 percent of its electricity from renewable sources. Oman and the region possess high wind and solar potential. The Dhofar project is one of many initiatives to harness renewable energy in Oman. Client has issued separate tenders for legal and technical advisory services on the scheme. The deadline for submission of bids is December 01, 2014. The main EPC contract is scheduled to be tendered in 2015. The plant is expected to commence operation in early 2017.
