Al Dur IWPP - Phase 2
The projectÂ’s scope of work involves construction of an Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP), will be located at Al Dur in Bahrain. The scope of works include construction of an underground and deep-sea tunnel, a side stream filter plant, interstage pump, and the installation of gas turbines, steam turbines, chemical dosing systems, a dissolved air flotation system, and a plant control system. Engineering, procurement and construction contract is set for the 1,500 MW gas-fired power plant and 50 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) of seawater reverse osmosis project. Under the proposed contract, the work will involve the design, procurement, construction and commissioning of the plant, gas connection facilities and the seawater intake/outfall facilities. The contract will also cover the operation and maintenance of the plant and the seawater intake/outfall facilities. EWA will purchase the power under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA), with the power capacity due to come online by June 2020. Water from the plant will be required to come online by June 2021. Client is yet to decide whether to appoint an EPC contractor to build the plant or to develop it as an IPP with the private sector. Once the decision is finalized companies will be invited to express interest in the project. Plant is planned to commissioned between 2017 to 2019.
