Souq Haraj Project - Umm Bashr
The project involves the creation of a new market of over 35,000sqm in the Umm Bashr area near Hamad International Airport, replacing the existing Souq Haraj in Najma, Qatar. The company's investment in the project will be over QR206mn. The tender offered by the company includes a design for the market based on distinctive Qatari architecture and provides for 324 shops, to be available at a monthly rent of QR54 per sqm. Besides, The market's architecture will be a traditional Qatari style; it will include 324 units available for lease as well as cafes and restaurants. it has made best use of the land available through the provision of a large number of parking lots and creation of a basement area that will make the process of moving goods to shops smooth and offer extra space for parking lots. Some 40 local companies had bought the terms and conditions booklet for the project. Only seven of these submitted tenders complied with all the requirements. The main standards included an innovative architectural design that would guarantee a smooth shopping process and easy movement of vehicles, goods and shoppers. The tender documents for the project were received in March 2015. About 95 percent of excavation work is complete. Once the excavation work is complete, construction will begin. Construction is expected to start off sooner, with the development expected to be ready for operation in the second half of 2017.
