Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Mosque Project
This project involves construction of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Mosque at Al Mahat area, Old Prison Road, Street No. 120, Block No. 125 in Al Ain. Construction of a new Mosque comprising a basement level and a ground floor with capacity to accommodate more than 20,000 worshipers, including other buildings for ablution, classrooms and offices, as well as underground parking. The size of this stunning unique Dome is 80 meters as diameter and 40 million pieces of mosaics have been hand cut to decorate it. Design details have not yet been finalized, but early design documents show that the main feature of this new mosque is a 160-metre-wide dome that will cover the main prayer hall and (4 Nos.) 120-metre-tall minarets, two next to the mosque and two at the entrance to the site. The total built-up area will be about 32,000 square metres, of which 14,500 square metres will be for the mosque. Construction work is expected to commence in the first half of 2011. Contractors have been invited to express interest in the piling and shoring package. Companies approached include firms such as Germany's Bauer, local Dutch Foundation, local/Turkish Al-Habtoor STFA Soil Group and local Swissboring, which is part of Italy's Trevi Group. Local Bayaty has been appointed as the architect. The local office of KEO International Consultants is acting as the engineering consultant.
