The Rumaila oil field is one of the largest oil fields in the world. It is located near Basra and about 20 miles from the Kuwaiti border in southern Iraq. It is spread over a 1,800km² area and is owned by Iraq. Scope of work to development of Rumaila oil field to increase production from 1.05 million barrels a day (b/d) to 2.85 million b/d. Companies have been given until April 30, 2008 to file applications for conducting 3-D testing of this super giant field. A meeting will be held in June 2008 for negotiations with interested companies and field operations are planned to commence in the last quarter of 2008.
