This project involves construction of the Qatar Foundation Stadium at Education City on the outskirts of Doha in Al Rayyan area. Education City Stadium takes the form of a jagged diamond, glittering by day and glowing by night. The 45,350-seat[1] stadium will be located in the midst of several university campuses at the Qatar Foundation's Education City, easily accessible for fans both in Qatar and in neighboring Bahrain, which will be only 51 minutes away from the stadium by high-speed rail. First plans for the stadium were presented as part of QatarÂ’s bid for the World Cup. Ground preparation works were started in 2014, but it took until the end of 2016 for actual foundation works to start. The stadium is expected to be completed in 2019. This project will provide Education City staff, students, and faculty with three world-class sporting pavilions: one for swimming, one for indoor sports, and a final pavilion for a track and field stadium. It is among the 9 new stadiums that will be built for Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. The stadium will take a jagged diamond form, glittering in the day and glowing in the night. After the FIFA World Cup, this stadium will be used by the university athletic teams and have a capacity of 25,000 seats. Detailed design of the stadium is currently underway.
