Petroleum Coke Storage & Handling Facilities Project
The project is in Oman. It is an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract to build facilities for the handling and storage of petroleum coke (pet coke) produced from the ongoing expansion of the refinery in Sohar. Pet coke is a by-product of the refining process and can be used as fuel or refined for use in the steel and aluminum production sectors. Scope of facilities includes five main components: 1) Receipt of pet coke using tipper truck from delayed coker unit, 2) Belt conveyor for loading pet coke in silos, 3) Storage of pet coke in two silos with total 60,000-tonne capacity , 4) Loading of pet coke in container from silos , 5) Unloading of pet coke from container ship at the port. The system will have capacity to load 40,000 tonnes on to ships in 48 hours. Oman Oil Refineries & Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic) is planning major investments in storage and handling facilities for petroleum coke, a report said. Pet coke, large quantities of which will be produced upon commissioning of the multi-billion-dollar Sohar Refinery Improvement Project, is used as a source of energy, or as a source of carbon for industrial applications, added the Oman Observer report. The handling and storage system will allow for Sohar refineryÂ’s output of this commodity to be exported via Sohar Port. Orpic has floated an invitation to tender (ITT) planning a system of silos with belt feeders and conveyors that will be established near the refinery complex at Sohar Port, the report said. Client has floated a tender and invited interested companies to submit bids for the EPC contract.
