The Dubai Central Library, also known as Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Library, will be located on Plot No. 326-5631 at Al Jaddaf, across the Creek from Dubai Festival City and resemble a giant open book. The 92,903 square meter development will include a 500-seat theatre and will be located in Al Jaddaf, and will overlook the Dubai Creek. It will house more than 4.5 million books, 1 million audio books and 2 million e-books. The library will include several areas for interaction, events, activities and educational and cultural festivals. The development will boast laboratories for preservation of books, the collection and processing of materials, and digital conservation. In addition, it will feature a variety of specialized libraries, including an information center, a media center, an Arabic library, an international library, a business library, a youth library, a children's library, a family library and a reading corner. The library will also serve as a venue for cultural and intellectual events, and art exhibitions. The building would feature latest technologies, making it one of the largest electronic libraries in the world. Client has revealed that there will also be presentations, documentaries and lectures from around the world at this library. The project is currently under tendering stage. Enabling works are also in progress.
