Sugar Beet Project - Minya
An Egyptian joint stock company, headed by the Emirati investor, signed three contracts worth EGP 5bn to complete the establishment of its sugar beet project in Minya. The first contract consists of three agreements with a Saudi Group to cultivate sugar beet using the latest agricultural machinery, supplying 1,000 axial irrigation equipment and providing maintenance of axial irrigation systems. This project will be located at Minya in Egypt. The scope of work of this project involves construction of a sugar beet plant with a large annual production capacity. The projectâs investments amount to $1bn and aims at developing the worldâs largest beet sugar production facility with a capacity of 900,000 tonnes annually, as well as the reclamation of 181,000 feddan of desert land which lies in west Minya in order to grow 2m tonnes of sugar beet per year. The company plans to complete construction of the plant in January 2021 to conduct the operating tests, ahead of the start of production with the harvest season 2021 which begins in February, and it will complete the projectâs electricity work by the end of 2019.
