Science Museum & Geo-Climate Center Project - King Abdullah Financial District
The project includes construction of a four-storey Science Museum that will cover 16,346 square meters, a six-level, 13,674 square meters aquarium with a theater and a five-storey Geo-Climate Center that will cover 10,820 square meters. The buildings will be linked by sky bridges and will share a 36,833 square meters public plaza. They will also share an underground parking garage for 1,525 cars and including a 300-seat IMAX theater, a two-story monorail station and a planetarium, in Saudi Arabia. The Science Museum and Geo-Climate Centre celebrate Saudi ArabiaÂ’s contributions to science and environmental education in a pair of buildings centrally located in the King Abdullah Financial District. C7AÂ’s design is derived from the fragmented and faceted forms of giant crystals found in nature. Crystalline shapes appear to grow out of the Plaza, creating the fractal architectural character of each building. Visitors enter each of the Museums at the Wadi level through lobbies, which act as information/orientation foyers for visitors. The Geo-Climate CentreÂ’s lobby provides access to the museum and IMAX Theatre while the Science Museum features a multi-level lobby providing access to and from the Skywalks, Monorail, and Underground Garage. Pre-qualified contractors are expected to receive tender documents for the main construction package in the second quarter of 2012. Tender documents for the aquarium are expected to be issued to pre-qualified companies by the end of first quarter of 2012.
