This project involves construction of a light railway network spanning approximately 105 kilometers in Bahrain. The first stage will span 30 kilometers of elevated track, 20 stations which are likely to include an airport station. There will be built-in flexibility to allow for expansion. It is expected to have a carrying capacity of 43,000 passengers per hour. The venture of LRT is a piece of Bahrain's Public Transport Masterplan 2030, which has suggested the advancement of 184 kilometers of travel organize including six lines, which is to be actualized in a staged way by 2030. The light rail system which will be implemented in four or five phases . • Blue Line, from Jufair to the Northern city and Budaiya; • Brown Line, from Manama to the University and Bahrain Circle; • Green Line, Jufair to Manama to Seef; • Orange Line, from the airport to Diar Island; • Pink Line, connecting Hamad Town, Riffa, Isa Town, Sitra, and South Manama; • Red Line, from the airport through Manama to the Qatar Bahrain causeway. It is expected to cost BD453 million. Subsequent phases will cost more. Detailed feasibility preliminary design is to commence later this year. If the scheme moves ahead, the plans call for it to be completed in 2022.
