  • Public Transportation

This project involves the development of Kuwait Metro. The project is about Implementation of a Metro scheme spanning 160 kilometers comprising (61) stations. Line 1 will connect Kuwait's southern metropolitan area with the centre and also run through the main university, a total of 25.8 kilometres. Line 2 will contain 25 stations along 20.9 kilometres and connect the main business district with the main residential areas of Salmiya and Hawally. The Kuwait metro project is still under consideration, quoting a letter recently sent by the Partnership Technical to an unspecified state department. According to the letter, the execution will go through five phases to build 160 km and is expected to be entirely finished in 23 years starting from the date of construction. The project was being divided into five phases to facilitate its execution and operation as well as to deal with all contingencies such as resolving any traffic congestions resulting from the construction process. The cost of the first phase is approximated to be KD5 billion. Line 3 will be 18.5 kilometres and connect the city to Kuwait International Airport and connect residential areas and Shuwaikh Industrial Zone. 65% of the network will be underground. Spain is expected to complete feasibility by the end of January 2008. A conference will be held in January 2008 or February 2008 inviting all interested parties to consider the study's findings. After the conference, the operator - Kuwait Overland Transport Union - will begin planning a tendering process.
