Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced two contracts worth Dhs630m ($171.5m) for the last two phases of the Expo 2020 roads project, it announced on Saturday. This project involves road access to the Dubai Expo 2020 site(Contract No. R1048/1). The overall scheme involves a number of intersections and access roads and could be split into about five separate construction packages. The project's scope of work involves the construction of the road access to the Expo 2020 site located in Dubai. Phase 1 entails a number of intersections and access roads. The project includes converting the existing roundabout at the intersection of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Jebel Ali–Lehbab Road to a flyover enabling free traffic movement in all directions. Jebel Ali–Lehbab Road will be upgraded through the construction of two bridges of six lanes in each direction, along with turns and direct ramps to ensure a smooth flow of traffic from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to and from Abu Dhabi. The project also includes roadworks extending 27 kilometers (km) on Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road, involving the widening of the road from four to six lanes in each direction, in addition to constructing service roads in both directions and four bridges in select part. It is understood that different contractors are likely to be appointed for each of the packages. An US-based company has been appointed as the consultant for the scheme. Client is expected to tender the main construction contracts soon.
