This project involves development of an integrated fuel station cum rest area in Oman, on the road leading to the new Oman-Saudi highway. The project also includes: • A petrol station, • Hotel, • Restaurant, • Mosque, • Small garden, • Car repair workshop and • Retail shops among others. The development aims in providing services and amenities to the traffic bound for Saudi Arabia through the Empty Quarter. The RO3mn project is being undertaken by Ard al Kunuz al Ahlia company, providing services and amenities to the traffic bound for Saudi Arabia through the Empty Quarter. The agreement also allocated six sites for the establishment of integrated rest areas along the newly-opened Batinah Expressway. Two rest areas each are earmarked for sites in the wilayats of Barka, Saham and Liwa and would include services like a fuel station, prayer area, commercial centre, car service and maintenance centre, motel, a park and parking slots. The ministry added that each site will cover an area of about 30,000sq m in order to provide modern services for road users as well as revitalise tourism along major highways. Two sites each are in the area of Al Uqdah in Barka, in the area of Rawdah in Saham as well as two sites in the new Liwa area in the wilayat of Liwa. In April last year, the agreement has signed for an integrated fuel station cum rest area on the road leading to the new Oman-Saudi highway. Construction of the station will commence in May 2017 and will take 390 days to complete. The land usufruct is valid for 50 years and renewable thereon. The road construction work on the Oman-Saudi highway was completed last year, which is expected to reduce the distance between the two countries by about 800km.
