This project is in Abu Dhabi. The project involves construction of a 138-kilometer-long railway line with double track from Ruwais to Ghweifat. Etihad Rail plans to develop phase 2 of the high speed passenger and cargo railway network linking all emirates In UAE. The project aims at connecting Ghuwaifat through Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Upon completion, the overall project is expected to be linked to similar projects in the neighboring countries and to the GCC railway. The project will consist of a standard gauge track built from 1.1 million tons of ballast over 400000 concrete sleepers and nearly 30000 tons of iron rails. Local Fugro Middle East is providing topographical survey including the verification of a survey control network, aerial surveying, ground surveying and production of mapping products and aerial photography. Bids have been submitted for the main construction contract. Bids are currently under evaluation. An award is anticipated in the third quarter of 2014.
