Desalination Plant Expansion Project (Phase 2) - Shuaiba 3 IWPP

  • OnGoing Project

  • Water

Execution of the Phase 2 desalination expansion of Shuaiba 3 Independent Water & Power Project (IWPP) in Saudi Arabia. The project is about Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract to build a reverse osmosis (RO) desalination plant with capacity of about 250,000 cubic meters a day. Shuaibah II Water Development Project is a wholly owned ACWA Power project, developed to meet accelerating demand for desalinated water in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This latest expansion will be constructed in Shuaibah, close to our existing water desalination plants; Shuaibah-3 IWPP and Shuaibah-3 Expansion IWP. Utilising sea water reverse osmosis technology, the plant is expected to have capacity per day and is scheduled to be commissioned by H1 2019. The total cost for the project is AR 1,179 million (USD 314 million). This desalination plant will contribute to tackling the water security challenge in Saudi Arabia, which is currently the worldÂ’s largest producer of desalinated water. Client has selected a consortium led by local developer Power to develop the scheme under an Independent Water Producer (IWP) contract, with Spain's as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor.
