This project involves construction of a new naphtha complex at the site of Assiut Refinery, located on the Nile about 375 kilometers south of Cairo in Egypt. Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract to build a naphtha complex at a refinery site comprising a naphtha hydrotreater unit (NHT), a continuous catalytic regeneration (CCR) reformer and an isomerization unit. The new facilities will have capacity to produce 660,000 tons a year (t/y) of high octane gasoline and different grades of gasoline. The Assiut refinery currently has capacity to produce 4.5 million t/y of crude. The complex will meet 75% of demand in neighboring provinces. Australia's WorleyParsons has been awarded the project management consultancy (PMC) contract. It will develop the EPC packages, review the bids, then manage and supervise the EPC contractors during the execution phase of this scheme. The venture is considered one of the biggest strategic projects of developing refineries in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Assiut. The 3.4 million tonnes/year diesel hydrocracking complex will convert lower-quality heavy fuels (Mazut) into high-quality petroleum products such as LPG, naphtha, kerosene and gasoline. The preparatory works include the project's main designs, purchase of equipment and negotiating with the financing institutions, said a statement by the Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ministry on Thursday. The venture targets providing petroleum products in Upper Egypt and reducing imports besides contributing to the implementation of the State's plan to develop Upper Egypt.
