This project involves construction of Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT) at Khorfakkan in Sharjah emirate. Client and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT), an affiliate of the Arab League in Egypt have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish this academy. The new academy will graduate students specializing in marine transport science and technology, international shipping logistics and international maritime law. This will provide specialised, modern studies and feed the work market with specialists in all fields of maritime work. According to the AASTMT website, its mission is to ‘Contribute to the social and economic development of the Arab region by offering distinguished Change Agents who have been qualified through comprehensive educational programs, high caliber faculty, and centers of excellence in research, training and consultancies while strictly committed to the highest levels of Quality’. According to a report by WAM, the new branch of the Academy will grant students a Bachelor’s Degree in applied and theoretical sciences. The Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah was also present at the foundation stone laying ceremony. Local Engineering Construction Co. has been awarded the main contract.
