  • Industrial Projects., Marine Services & Seaports

This project involves the upgradation and expansion of an existing industrial port of Aluminum Bahrain (ALBA) in Bahrain. The project's scope of work involves upgradation and expansion of an existing industrial port of Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) located at Sitra, Bahrain. The project aims to enhance the capacity of the unloading, handling, and storage of raw materials like alumina and petroleum coke. The project will include the modernization of the conveyors carrying the raw materials from the wharf to the storage area and the expansion of the existing jetty. Such works are necessary to comply with the expansion of line 6 of the ALBA smelter that, once completed, will transform it into the worldÂ’s largest single-site smelter with a total production capacity of 1.5 million tons per year. Bechtel will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction management of the aluminum smelterÂ’s sixth potline. Line 6, which is expected to begin production by early 2019, will increase AlbaÂ’s annual output by 540,000 tonnes, bringing total capacity to 1,500,000 tonnes. It is understood that a Gulf Co. W.L.L. has been appointed as the main contractor for this development. The contractor will be responsible for engineering, construction of civil works, handling systems and their installation, in addition to managing the interface between the main suppliers and subcontractors. The project is expected to be completed by Q1 of 2020.
