Airport City Development Project
HIA Airport City is a new 10km2 development where 200,000 people will live and work, linking the new Hamad International Airport with the city of Doha, Qatar. Planning is at an advanced stage for a solar cooling system in this city. The system will be based on concentrated solar power (CSP) units that will supply energy to an absorption chiller. The CSP collector area will be 35,000 square metres. If approved, it will be the largest attempted in the Middle East. Netherlands-based OMA has been appointed to complete the master plan for Airport City. OMA's master plan calls for four circular district along a spine parallel to Hamad International's runways. Other companies working on the developmet includes: Engineering Services, Infrastructure, Utilities, Sustainability( WSP Landscape), Sustainability ( RWDI Specialist Lighting), Wayfinding, Cost Consulting, Districon Food & Beverage Consulting etc. As well as providing a major transport hub to link the HIA to greater Doha, Airport City includes cargo and warehousing facilities, premises for aviation authorities and homes for future employees at the site. On opening HIA will welcome up to 30 million passengers into Doha each year and, putting the city on the world-stage,
