Abu Dhabi Metro Rail Project - Phase 1A
This project involves development of the Abu Dhabi Metro rail scheme. It would be the largest infrastructure scheme and could cover several hundred kilometres of metro lines serving Abu Dhabi island and new developments adjacent to the existing city. Phase 1 of metro includes 18 kilometres of the metro lines and 40 kilometre of the light-rail transit (LRT) system. The first phase of the metro will be 42.5-kilometre-long and the track for the first metro line would be 2.13-kilometre at grade track (ground level), 4.91-kilometre elevated, 16.2 kilometres cut and cover tunnel and 19.26-kilometre in the bored tunnels. The first phase will connect Zayed Sports City on the south of Abu Dhabi Island and Mina Port to the North. Most of the network will be underground. The Abu Dhabi urban master plan for 2030 involves a metro running through tunnels along Abu Dhabi island to Hamdan street, where it will connect with lines serving Saadiyat Island. It will run above ground on Saadiyat Island. Abu Dhabi Metro would be linked to Dubai Metro and to other cities in UAE and to other GCC states.
